01

What a fractional CMO is - and is not

A fractional CMO is a senior marketing executive who owns strategy, budget and performance for part of a week rather than all of it. It is the right structure for a company whose marketing decisions have outgrown the owner's spare hours but whose scale does not yet justify a full-time chief marketing officer and the compensation attached to one.

It is not an agency retainer, and it is not an extra consultant producing decks. The role carries the same accountabilities a full-time CMO would hold: what gets funded, what gets measured, who does the work, and what the board or ownership sees at the end of the quarter.

  • Marketing strategy tied to a revenue plan
  • Budget ownership, channel allocation and vendor selection
  • Team structure, hiring input and day-to-day direction
  • Agency and freelancer management against defined outcomes
  • Reporting cadence for ownership, board or investors
02

The experience behind the role

Andrew directed a $1.2M annual marketing budget at Big Top Manufacturing, where the program delivered 34% year-over-year revenue growth, $17M+ in incremental revenue and a 42% traffic increase. Budget ownership at that level is the difference between advising on marketing and being responsible for it.

He also founded and operated Tally Entertainment, leading brand, marketing, sales and growth to 288+ projects booked, an 88% conversion rate and $500K+ in total project value. Having carried payroll and pipeline in the same week changes how a marketing plan is written.

That mix - executive leadership inside a larger business and founder responsibility for a smaller one - is what most fractional engagements need. The first ninety days are usually less about new campaigns than about deciding which existing commitments are worth keeping.

03

A typical engagement

Engagements normally begin with a defined diagnostic period: positioning, funnel, channel performance, spend efficiency, team capability and reporting quality. Out of that comes a marketing plan with named owners, a budget and a measurement model - the document the company operates from, not a strategy deck that ages on a drive.

Ongoing, the role is a fixed weekly rhythm: priorities set, team and partners directed, performance reviewed against the plan, and one clear report to ownership. Many engagements are designed to end with an in-house hire, with the systems and reporting already built for whoever takes the seat.

Fractional CMO work in Miami

Miami's growth companies are frequently founder-led with strong instincts and thin marketing infrastructure. The common pattern is real revenue, several channels running at once, no single owner of the number, and reporting that cannot answer what caused last quarter. That is precisely the gap a fractional CMO fills.

Andrew works with companies across Miami-Dade and Broward and remotely with companies elsewhere. Fractional CMO and advisory engagements are contracted through Goldstein Consulting, his own consulting practice; the work, references and results on this site are his own record as an executive and founder.

Common questions

What does a fractional CMO cost compared to a full-time hire?
A fractional engagement is scoped to a set number of days per month, so a company gets executive-level marketing leadership without full-time executive compensation, equity or a long hiring cycle. Scope and fee are agreed before the engagement starts.
How long do engagements run?
Most run for a defined period long enough to build the plan, prove the measurement and stabilize the team, with a review point built in. Many are designed to hand over to an in-house marketing lead.
Will Andrew manage our existing agencies?
Yes. Directing agencies, freelancers and in-house staff against one plan is a core part of the role.
